Scripture: St. Luke 2:7, “And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped HIM in swaddling clothes (for those of you who do not know those are rages), and laid HIM in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” There was no room for JESUS to be born.

Subject: “Make Room For Christ”

Sincere Christians do not make as much fuss about Christmas as the world does, for nobody knows whether December the 25th is the birthday of JESUS CHRIST and we shall perhaps never know. But, one thing we do know, HE was born, lived, died and rose again. Christmas as we observe it, was unknown to the early church, for the most part, Christmas is a man made commercial affair, minus the Spirit of CHRIST (As Dr. Carl Anderson would write). It is a one day affair, but even on Christmas day, most people cannot forget themselves long enough to breathe the Spirit of CHRIST. Christmas is usually the happiest day of the year. If CHRIST controlled our lives, peace and good-will would be ours throughout the year. Make room for CHRIST. We read these words in St. Luke the 2nd chapter, verse 7, “And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped HIM in swaddling clothes, and laid HIM in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” In Revelation the 3rd chapter, Verse 20 says: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Isn’t that wonderful).” In Bethlehem, we find the baby JESUS out of the temple and the king’s palace; HE was out of the best houses and even out of the Inn, which was the common lodging place for poor people, JESUS was lying in a manger, where cattle and cows, and livestock was (He could not get in Motel 6, to say the least about the Embassy Suites, or the Ramada Inn, or HE could not get in Children’s Hospital, or Summit Medical, HE had to go here down in West Oakland where there was no room for HIM). In Revelations, as we read, and we see HIM standing, knocking at the door of the church that HE purchased with HIS own blood, trying to get in. There was no room for HIM when HE was born, and no room for HIM in the church after HIS ascension. We know that the people of Bethlehem didn’t know that JESUS was going to be born that night, but it made little, if any difference, for nowhere did a city or town make room for JESUS. Bethlehem had no room for HIM when HE was born, and Jerusalem had no room for HIM when HE was to put to death; HE died out of the city. The crowd that condemned HIM could have saved HIM. Pilate asked the men “Whom shall I release to you?” And they yelled out and long, “Give us Barabbas and crucify CHRIST” for they had no room for HIM. CHRIST did get into Bethlehem, but HE has failed to get into most of our lives because we will not make room for HIM and HE will not force HIS way into our lives. The only difference that I can see between the men of Bethlehem and those of our day is they had no room for CHRIST or HIS name. Yes, they did not love the name of JESUS. We have failed to make room for JESUS, but we make a big fuss over HIS name. Yes, we love to keep CHRIST in the manger while we continue living in sin. We print millions of “Merry Christmas” and “Good Will” cards every year to a peace-longing world; but, CHRIST we leave in the manger for there is no room for HIM in our homes. We know that if CHRIST comes into our homes, HE will drive the crooked crooks out of the temple at Jerusalem. If CHRIST comes into our homes, HE will not share with Jim Crow hatred and war-mongers, or that pip or that prostitute. HE will not share you with that pip, or HE will not share with you with that prostitute. If CHRIST comes home with us, HE will declare peace without consulting the United Nations. We must make room for HIM. December the 25th is a great day in America. Billions of dollars will be spent for gifts and dinners, but December the 25th will not bring CHRIST into your life unless you make room for HIM. You have made room for all others that you want in your life. If you want CHRIST, you will have to make room for HIM. You have made room for Christmas cards, trees, and programs, while CHRIST is saying: “Behold, I am standing, knocking at your door.” Whenever a housewife buys a new stove or machine, she must make room for it. Every life, like every store is filled with something, and the only way CHRIST can enter is when we make room for HIM. You don’t need to write HIM a letter, just make room for HIM. If we make room for CHRIST, HE will give us peace in our world of confusion. We lack brotherhood because men will not make room for CHRIST. We may sing well, serve often and give much, but we will not grow in grace unless we make room for CHRIST in our lives. That is why I talked to you this morning trying to telling you to have a kind word. For when you have a kind word, soft answers drives away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. When you have soft answers you are making room for CHRIST. When you have grievous words, you making room for the devil. You did not have to tell me you did not pray right this morning. When you did not go to bed right, you did not wake up right. Because if you go to bed right with CHRIST on your heart and on your mind, you are going to get up with “Thank you JESUS”. If you want to become “strong in the LORD and in the power of HIS might”, learn the Christmas secret, make room for CHRIST. CHRIST will always remain in your manger unless you make room for HIM in your home. You can grow in grace when you substitute humbleness for haughtiness. You can grow in grace when you substitute humility and love for arrogancy; GOD is waiting for you, for you to step aside so CHRIST can come in. CHRIST will always be saying: “The foxes have holes in the earth, the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hath nowhere to lay HIS head” unless you make room for CHRIST in your life. Make room for the resurrection of CHRIST, or HE will remain in your tomb of unbelief. Make room for the salvation of CHRIST or you will be lost forever. CHRIST has been seen at different periods of HIS life. HE was seen coming as a “root out of dry ground,” but the most loved CHRIST is the CHRIST of the manger. CHRIST in the manger didn’t cost us a room or a dollar. CHRIST in the manger had condemned none of our pet sins or even said “Ye must be born again.” As much as we loved HIM there, HE could not remain in the manger, but HE must become the man of Galilee and the CHRIST of Calvary. HE died that HE would remain with us forever. HE died that our sins could be forgiven. But HE did not stay dead, HE rose on the third day for our justification. HE must be baptized by John and be tempted by Satan. HE had to become the second Adam that we may live again. HE had to close the gates of death, and open the gates of paradise. Make room for CHRIST in all of your planning, giving and living, and HE who gave all to save us will bless your going out and your coming in. Peter was a poor fisherman, but he left his nets and boats and made room for CHRIST. Zacchaeus was a rich man, yes he was, he made room for CHRIST when he came down, and said all I have taken, I will give back four folds. We make room, yes we do and yes we buy $200 dollar Christmas trees. We buy $100 dollar Christmas trees, we buy lights and decorate the Christmas tree. We make room and we clean out a certain area in our house and move all the furniture in a certain way that we can put the Christmas tree there; and put all the lights around. Yes, we make room around our house and put lights all around our house, yes we do; yes we make room for guests when they come and we tidy up the house, we make up the bed and we buy another bed and put it in a room. We make room for our guest to come in. Well, CHRIST, it sometimes cost us $400 to $200 dollars for a tree. It costs us sometimes $50 dollars for lights. When guest comes, it costs us $200 or $300 dollars to provide for the guests; but our SAVIOUR who owns everything. Our SAVIOUR who died on the cross, HE was born in a stable along with the animals, you said foxes have holes, birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hath nowhere to lay HIS head. HE said I stand at the door of you heart, and knock, HE is not knocking to receive any money. HE is not knocking to receive your virginity. HE is not knocking to take your hair, your home, but HE just want to come in and sup with you. “For GOD so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” HE wants to come in because HE loves you. HE wants to come in because HE cares for you. HE wants to come in because HE holds you. HE wants to come in because HE cares for you. For what shall a man profit if he should gain the whole world and loose his soul. HE will give you a home, just let HIM come in. HE will give you a car, just let HIM come in. HE will put food on the table just let HIM come in. HE will put clothes on your back, just let HIM come in. All HE wants is your heart. All HE wants is your heart so HE can be a mind regulator, your heart fixed. HE wants to put joy, it is free of charge. HE wants to put love, it is free of charge. HE wants to put longsuffering, it is free of charge. Yes HE just wants you to be saved, HE gave you salvation to be saved. Salvation is free of charge. Christmas trees cost you money, presents cost you money, gifts cost you money; but, JESUS is free. Salvation is free. Do you know HIM? Do you know HIM? Do you love HIM? HE is free. Christmas is alright, but, CHRIST is the best. I got JESUS and that is enough. I got the HOLY GHOST and that is enough. Do you know HIM? Do you know HIM? Do you know HIM? Without CHRIST there is no Christmas. You can give all the Christmas presents you want, you can have the whole world, houses and lands; but if you do not have CHRIST, you do not have Christmas. Christmas is every day, we are just commemorating HIS birth coming into this world, born of a virgin.

Subject: “An Unusual Love”

The late Reverend Dr. Carl Anderson entitled this message (which I am going to take up the drumbeat): "An Unusual Love”. He allures to several unusual historical love stories that has captivated the human hearts (I am only going to touch on two). General Mark Antony, the politician and the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, though both individual lives came to a tragic end, it has been marked as one of the most unusual, inquisitive, on-going and very sensitive love rendezvous that still holds sentimental values among play rights of intellectual ages. This unusual love story is studied in classrooms from coast to coast about the priorities of what was most influential, meaning, was it politics or was it the passion of love; what weighs heavier? Of course, the human side would say the emotional side would weigh heavier than the political side; but, did it really? The unusual love affair was intertwined with political overtures (meaning an introduction to something more substantial), which was on both sides, meaning on Mark Antony’s side in Rome and on Cleopatra’s side in Egypt, which caused great political conflicts (Their love rendezvous). Even though they were married in 40 B.C. for the purpose that brought Egypt under Rome’s control, Rome did not accept their marriage, but in Egypt their marriage was accepted. (Now, you have to understand, that Egypt ruled from a theocratic government, and Rome began to indoctrinate culture of democracy republic based on Plato and Aristotle, those are philosophers). History paints Cleopatra as being seductive, which captivated General and Politician, Mark Antony who crumbled to his knees in the political arena, and eventually the end came for Cleopatra in suicide. But, she was raised to be politically seductive because at the age of 11 she was given in marriage to her younger half-brother Ptolemy, for apparently religious and political reasons, in which, history states that he drowned probably fighting in a war. Then, she was given in marriage to her next younger half-brother for religious and political reasons, which he mysteriously died (according to history) of a disease. It is noted afterward that she became Julius Caesar’s mistress who was the Emperor of Rome, for political alliances to bring Egypt under Rome’s control. Of course, we all know that Julius Caesar’s life came to an end when he was betrayed by his political competitors in the Senate of Rome, for political reasons, led by Octavian who became later known as Augustus, leader over Rome. Standing in the wings next to Julius Caesar was General and Politician and his closest ally and friend, Mark Antony, who seems like he took up the drumbeat of Julius Caesar, his friend, politically and love wise to bring about a democratic and republic Rome. Also, to bring Egypt close by becoming involved with Cleopatra. The unusual part about this unusual, tragic love was rooted in political maneuvering, because Mark Antony himself was 20 years older than Cleopatra. Yet, he eyed her or possibly they eyed one another while Queen Cleopatra was being Julius Caesar’s mistress. Their intimacy with one another trumped their aspirations of the political arena, to the point where they chose their love involvement with one another over the welfare of their nation or empire. Instead of unifying Egypt and Rome, their heated love affair caused political conflicts. You see Mark Antony had four previous wives before entertaining Cleopatra, and one of his wives was the sister of Octavian, whose name was Octavius, who was Mark Antony’s bitterest enemy. Octavian later became the next ruler of Rome. But, Octavian was not going to allow, (he was determined to stamp out) Mark Antony and Cleopatra’s scheme to empower themselves over Rome and Egypt. Now, the question that I pose today, are these unusual love affairs still happening today? The answer is yes. We see these unusual love affairs in sports, we see these unusual love affairs in Hollywood where actors and actresses marry and remarry for fame and fortune and for allowances to gain parts in certain movies. We have seen this among sports stars how some of our professional baseball, golf and basketball sports stars have inter-marital relationships, and others who have been taken for a lot of money and divorced. We have seen in the underworld how women and men in families become allies in unusual love affairs, but one kills the other for power and position. The late Rev. Dr. Carl Anderson listed three on-going reasons for unusual love, which he mentioned: “possessive”, “contemplative” and “benevolent”. It seems like when the Greeks used these terminologies to define “love affairs” tragedy is always at the end, because, without agape love (GOD's love), it will always come to an end and usually tragically. Let’s turn our attention to Jacob and Rachel with these same elements of being “possessive”, “contemplative” and “benevolent”. Their love is unusual. Even though it had become political (which I will explain later, because the twelve tribes of Israel matriculated out of this relationship; and the government became the Ten Commandments. and laws became their organizing to control them political), but GOD used their love affair to bring about a relationship between HIMSELF, Jacob, Rachel and Leah, mainly Rachel and Jacob, that brought about life and not death; (So, GOD when HE is in the midst of a love affair it is not tragic, yes, it is a lifelong beautiful experience), that brought about productivity and not tragic. In Mark Antony and Cleopatra, it was a brief flame, it only lasted a short period of time, but it went out. Meanwhile, was Mark Antony and Cleopatra’s unusual love affair possessive, meaning, self-serving? Or was their love affair contemplative, meaning, they got to know one another, then they became madly in love? Or was it benevolent? Was it basically good for both countries, for Egypt and Rome and for the welfare of the people? Does this unusual love need to be elevated to the height of being a classic in a kind of heroic way? Should it be a classic, their love affair? History states that Cleopatra seduced Mark Antony and they were married in 40 B.C. The flames of Cleopatra’s seduction went much further in their intimate love affair; so much so, until some 1800 years later, a great writer was captivated by their unusual love that flamed their era, in which the great William Shakespeare's love story play was probably performed first about 1607 at the Blackfriars Theatre or the Globe Theatre by the king’s men. Even though we use that name loosely, “Cleopatra”, the secretive depth of her personality and overwhelming charm of Mark Antony is really hidden in history and is still played out today on the stages of life everywhere for convenience sake. Was their love benevolent, where they were willing passionately to unite for the sake that Egypt would not be pillaged and destroyed by Rome. In-other-words, did she marry Mark Antony was it benevolent, to give of herself so that Rome would not pillage and destroy Egypt was it benevolent (you call them gold diggers)? Was their love benevolent where their love was passionately willing to unite for the sake that Egypt would not pillage and destroyed by Rome, and that Rome would have a gate-way to the higher cultures and mysteries of the Egyptians intellect of the pyramids of the art in building structures and exposed to writings and exposed to the arts and the mysteries of medicine? Or, was it their love contemplative, where they had seen one another in courts when she was Julius Caesar’s mistress? Did it eventually end where they became possessive where one could not live without the other because their benevolent and their contemplative love no longer fortified their dreams? From all indications, it appears that even though they were intimately involved, what over shadowed their love was the politics of failure when they found out that Octavian Augustus was not going to allow Mark Antony and Cleopatra to be in control by manipulating Egypt and Rome under their unusual love or seduction. Let's take Jacob, the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham, who was a twin in the womb of Rebecca his mother. Jacob and Esau struggled in the womb for supremacy, but, we hear in Romans the 9th chapter and verse 13, which the LORD says: "As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." You see, GOD is love! The Holy Bible tells us, that, GOD is love. And GOD, HE is the only ONE WHO knows how to differentiate and direct love in the right way, only GOD. The devil will twist love into a lustful, erotic, self-serving love that will end in tragedy. You see, GOD, in the name of JESUS always converts a lustful heart into a self-giving and an un-selfish heart. Jacob, whose name means “trickster”, lived up to his name, Yes he did, he lived up to his name. He tricked his father Isaac into blessing him by disguising himself as being Esau, his older twin brother and got the blessing. As we know, Esau was supposed to have received the blessing from his father, Isaac. Once again, he was a master (I am talking about Jacob), in tricking people. He tricked his brother Esau into selling him his birthright for a bowl of soup. he gave away his birthright for a bowl of soup. He let his belly get the best of him. Jacob majored in his craftiness of being tricky. As he escaped and fled from his brother Esau to his mother's brother's house, a dramatic event took place in his life that swept him off his feet; it was astonishing, (We are always talking about men sweeping women off their feet, well, he was swept off his feet). The LORD GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (the Unusual Heavenly Lover of the soul) came to him and expressed great love as he traveled to his Uncle Laban’s house. As being the Almighty Lover, who chooses who HE wants, just like Jacob chose Rachel to be the love of his life, GOD chose Jacob to be the love of HIS heart. And as men talk to women in telling them what they will do for them, we hear the LORD GOD expressing HIS love toward Jacob. In the dream where Jacob saw angels ascending and descending from heaven, the LORD HIMSELF spoke to Jacob in expressing HIS unusual great love for Jacob. Listen to the lover of Jacob's soul: Genesis chapter 28, verses 10-22 says: “And Jacob went out from Beersheba (He left his father and mother, and his father and mother told him do not marry any foreign women), and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder ( you see, GOD gives you dreams) set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of GOD ascending and descending on it (Going up and down the ladder). And, behold, the LORD stood above it (The LORD stood above it, HE did not send an angel, but the LORD stood above it), and the LORD said, I Am the LORD GOD (HE introduced HIMSELF, you know how men introduce themselves to women, "hey, how are you doing? I am so-and-so", and GOD introduces HIMSELF to Jacob) I Am the LORD GOD of Abraham thy father, and the GOD of Isaac (the LORD GOD is introducing HIMSELF. Now, the LORD GOD is not Jacob's GOD yet, he is still a trickster, I am trying to tell you about a great unusual love story. GOD, I am going to tell you one day how HE introduced HIMSELF to me.) (Listen to what the LORD is promising. GOD can promise you something and HE can come through, you better watch the others that promise you something and cannot come through.): the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread (I am going to give you a whole lot of people) abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: (now, he is by himself, but see GOD can keep HIS Word. Anytime GOD is in your love affair and HE will keep HIS Word, and HE will bring it to fruition). Now remember, Jacob’s name has not been changed yet, he is still a trickster while GOD is promising (look at the love of GOD. While we were in our sins, in due time CHRIST died for us. When we were out there acting crazy, and out there in our mess, GOD still loved us. HE said come, I will love you anyway. You were all messed up, you are tore-up, but I am going to still love you.) Well the answer is love. You see some wonder, why is GOD so good to me (even some now wonder why is GOD so good to me) when I mess up and I’m doing this? Well, the answer is love) In thee (listen to what GOD said) and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed (I thank GOD for loving Jacob, I thank GOD for changing him) And, behold, I am with thee, (listen what GOD is saying the LORD speaking love to Jacob, in saying that HE will be with him) For the Bible says that “If I am for you, I am more than the world against you, that's love) and will keep thee (listen to what GOD is saying to Jacob) in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; (the LORD said that HE was going to take Jacob and HE was going to bring him there wherever he goes, HE is going to be with him). You see, when you are chosen, it doesn’t matter what it looks like to others, for his brother Esau saw him as a trickster and a deceiver, who was going to murder and kill him, but the love of GOD said, “Oh no, I’m going to protect you Jacob and take care of you, I’m going to bless your seed, not curse, but bless. For I will not leave thee (Jacob), until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. (So GOD is going to keep HIS Word, but listen to the response of Jacob). And Jacob awaked (shocked him) and came out of his sleep, and he said, Surely (when you have the devil in you, it shakes you when GOD talks to you, it shakes you up) the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.” (in-other-words, if he knew the LORD was there he was not going to stay there) But Jacob left there, he made GOD a promise by saying: “How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of GOD, and this is the gate of heaven. And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. And Jacob vowed a vow, (listen he is talking to GOD, he is responding) saying, If GOD will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my GOD: (in-other-words he is not his GOD yet, oh, but GOD has a way to make you in your mess see HIM, but GOD is going to change that attitude) And this stone, (this is what Jacob said) which I have set for a pillar, shall be GOD's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give (my tithes) the tenth unto thee.” Now, the LORD is talking to Jacob and Jacob is responding to the LORD. The LORD don’t love like we love, and yet HE does more. HIS love is a righteous love, where there is chastisement and yet there is protection. But, little did Jacob know that the LORD was going to allow him to reap what he sowed(when the LORD love us we have to pay. Sometimes with sickness, sometimes you lose a home, sometimes you lose this; but, stay there). Sometimes reaping is a monster; oh GOD will bless you, but we have to reap what we have sown, that’s the LORD GOD’s love because HE is Just. But, little did Jacob know that it would be twenty years later that his blessing would come to full bloom (we cannot wait two minutes, we cannot wait five years, LORD we have to have it now. LORD I am hurting, so you run to the doctor, LORD help me, you have your mind on the doctor while you are praying to GOD. talking about you want a husband, you want a wife, you cannot wait four years). Little did he know that he would have two wives (he went to get one wife. So GOD knows how, HE is the Master payback); one he did not love and one that he had an unusual love for. You see in the beginning of his servitude, from year one to twenty years, even though the LORD was with him, he took the very thing that Jacob loved and taught him many lessons that brought him to the reality that GOD is really his true lover. The LORD GOD worked on Jacob in changing his affections, changing his attitude, and changing his character to become more of a Godly love that made his love unusual love for Rachel. Eventually, GOD changed Jacob’s name at the end of the twenty years from trickster to Israel (what a blessing, he had to struggle for that blessing. Sometimes as a church we want to have a flowery bed of ease, sometimes you have to struggle). Sometimes in our lives, it is twenty years later when we are ready to receive the blessing that GOD has for us. The LORD GOD taught Jacob how to really love. The LORD GOD re-directed his selfish, lustful love into a Godly, holy, unusual love that the LORD GOD was pleased with (but GOD was in his love affair). The LORD GOD is so intimate with us. HE loves us so much! Now lust can go in many different ways, it is not just sexual, you can lust and be greedy after money. GOD tells us that HE will withhold no good thing from us, but only HE knows how and when we should or will receive what HE has prepared good for us. Now, getting back to this unusual love story between Jacob and Rachel, how did the LORD GOD bring Jacob to his blessing? The first thing is, the LORD GOD allowed his uncle to begin teaching Jacob lessons on being crafty and tricky (somebody is always better than you at your own game). Laban, agreed to give Rachel (he was happy along with the other breathen), the beautiful Rachel to Jacob; but, on the following day when Jacob awakened, he did not have the love of his life lying next to him, no, no! It was the ugly, oldest sister Leah. Can you imagine seven years later of physical maturity as Rachel grew more beautiful in Jacob’s eye sight, possibly as she charmed him on a daily basis with her smiles and her eyes as each heartbeat of his heart pumped with joy and anticipation, can you imagine 84 hard months of labor, looking forward to his wedding day to the love of his life, can you imagine 2,555 days dreaming of having the love of his life; can you imagine 61,320 hours later of imagining, caressing and holding the love of his life, can you imagine 3,679,209 minutes that he would be lying in bed with the object of his affections? But, all of those seven years, all of those months, days, minutes and seconds of anticipations came to a stunning halt of disbelief. I can imagine when he awakened and saw that it was not Rachel but Leah, he was shocked, possibly angered, disappointed, and enraged to know that he had been tricked (seven years). Payback is a monster. Listen as Jacob sternly spoke these words to his father-in-law: “What is this thou hast done unto me? Did not I serve with thee for Rachel? Wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?” The Easy Reader Version says: “You have tricked me. I worked hard for you so that I could marry Rachel. Why did you trick me? Laban said, (in a calm way) In our country we don’t allow the younger daughter to marry before the older daughter. Continue for the full week (another seven years) of the marriage ceremony and I will also give you Rachel to marry. But you must serve me another seven years.” So the LORD knows how to clean you up. For HE will take the very thing you love and beat you to the point where you will realize that it ain’t worth it to be a gambler, ain’t worth it to be a whore, ain’t worth it to be a prostitute, ain’t worth it to be a pimp, ain’t worth it to be a hustler, to be a deceiver, or to be a liar; for what you sow, you will also reap. Thank GOD for loving us to take what is killing us and turn it around to bless us by making us turn away from it. Jacob was now stuck with a woman that he did not want, and he could not divorce her nor get rid of her because it was the law of the land, and that was his father-in-law's oldest daughter (he loved his daughter); if he wanted Rachel he had to keep Leah. So, GOD was teaching Jacob (in HIS love, look at the love of GOD) how to love like GOD loves us, because we were ugly. Jacob had a bad name. The LORD worked on changing his name, by changing his character. He had to become more dependent on the LORD now (when you are exposed, where are you going to go? You have been doing undercover, and when you are exposed, where are you going to go?) You see GOD knows how to take life’s experiences and teach us as HE taught Jacob how to become responsible to GOD and man without being a trickster. GOD cannot trust us with a blessing that HE has for us until HE clean us up, and this is what HE was doing with Jacob in his heart, in his character and attitude. Jacob had to realize that it was no happy thing to deceive somebody (he learned that the hard way, seven years worth). Now, let me clarify something, Jacob served another seven years, making it fourteen years of servitude for one woman, the love of his life. That’s a long time to serve and to remain true in his heart for Rachel; but it was not Rachel’s womb that GOD opened to have children, it was Leah’s. You see, GOD loved Leah just as much as HE loved Rachel. She had more children for Jacob than Rachel and through Judah, one of Leah’s son’s by Jacob, came JESUS CHRIST. So, don’t you get disturbed because it looks like man does not pay you any attention, as long as GOD loves you, that’s all that matters (because, he is going to do for you). I wish I had more time to talk about that, but let me close this message by comparing Cleopatra and Mark Antony’s love with Jacob’s and Rachel’s love. Without GOD being intimate in Mark Antony’s and Cleopatra’s love affair, it was non-productive and a tragedy (they had a son, but where is he, you never heard about him. But all of Jacobs children you hear about, because GOD was in the midst). But, with Jacob’s and Rachel’s love affair, when GOD is intimate within a relationship, it becomes productive and life serving. For GOD (I am so glad some wait and say "Rev, what about marrying here, etc. put GOD in it) straightened out Jacob and he received the blessing in his name being changed, and through his lineage a great nation, the twelve tribes of Israel was formulated. And through his lineage came the Messiah, CHRIST JESUS, our LORD and Savior. Cleopatra and Mark Antony’s love flame flickered out within a very short period of time. But, Jacob, Rachel and Leah’s love affair with GOD being intimate with Jacob, and Jacob being loyal and loving to GOD, lives on in the hearts in Christendom everywhere. Mark Antony and Cleopatra’s flame has gone out (they are dead, they have a classic) But his name is no more “Jacob”, but “Israel” and Rachel and the sons of Leah will live on throughout eternity. I would rather have the unusual love of GOD, than to have the flickering, unusual, and momentarily love that is fruitless, baseless and like a match blown out, smoke scattered everywhere, it is gone. Give me the solid love of JESUS, the unusual love that died on the cross for my sins, the unusual love that takes care of me, the unusual love that is awake when everyone else is sleep, GOD is always there. Like HE was Jacob’s Protector, HE is the church's Protection; HE is the Unusual Lover, HE is the Lover of our souls. Let Hollywood put that on screen (talking about Cleopatra and Mark Antony!) You will not see this love scene, no, no, but, because the devil (I am talking about, you will not see Rachel and Jacob on the screen, but you will see Cleopatra and Mark Antony) You will not see this love scene, talking about Rachel and Jacob, no, no, because GOD is in it. The devil will not let them put that on screen, because people will get saved, they want to keep the adulterous flame going, they want to keep the seductive spirit of Cleopatra going, they want to keep the womanizer spirit of Mark Antony going. But, all Cleopatra's and Mark Antony's love is nothing but a “classic”. But, the love of Jacob and Rachel lives on because the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob became Jacob’s GOD for him and his family, whereas Mark Antony and Cleopatra rebelled against the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Egyptians believed that they were half god and half man. Their government (as they felt) was controlled by a god-man, which is referred to as a theocratic. Mark Antony’s god’s were mythology; Zeus, Apollo and etc. So, right from the start Cleopatra and Mark Antony’s unusual love is a classic and a myth because their gods are no gods compared to the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Only GOD can take a trickster and make a saint, only GOD can take peasant girls and make them mothers of the twelve tribes of Israel (that's GOD's love, HIS love transforms); their names will live on through eternity, this is the unusual love that Hollywood cannot grasp. This is the real classic, it lives on (I am talking about Rachel and Jacob), this is the real deal, don’t pattern your life after Mark Antony and Cleopatra, pattern your life after Jacob and Rachel (every woman should be a Rachel by waiting, she had to wait too, she was patient) it lives on with GOD. The world has its “classic”, which is short lived, but GOD has HIS “classic”, which is eternal. Finally, listen to Jacob as he spoke to Laban in Genesis chapter 31, verses 37 – 42 says: “Whereas (he is explaining his testimony how GOD straighten his life out. Jacob is talking now to his father-in-law) thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both. This twenty years (listen to Jacob) have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten. That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee (look how he has changed, he had to pay, he learned the lesson. I am not going to that anymore, he was honest); I bare the loss of it (you see GOD knows how to make your heart compassionate); of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night. (whatever was lost in the sheep, I repaid that, I made it good for you) Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me (I was thirsty, I was tired but I stayed there working, he served another six years to help his father-in-law out), and the frost by night (he was cold at night and hot in the day, but he stayed faithful. GOD know how to make you faithful. He can take what you love and bless you in many different ways); and my sleep departed from mine eyes (I did not sleep night or day). Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times. You have tricked me ten times. Every time, I believe that his father-in-law tricked him, he got closer to GOD. He said I do not want to be a trickster anymore. GOD knows how to take what you have been doing and whip you down, and strip you to the point where you do not want to do that anymore. You cannot sleep at night, because you know that you are wrong. Twenty years you have changed my wages ten times. Except the LORD of my fathers. Now, here is the unusual love story. Jacob was there he was their servant, he had his heart on Rachel, oh, we are going to be loving; but, when he woke up, it was ugly Leah in his eyes, she was still GOD's child. Now, he is saying I have served you twenty years, I am here now and GOD, if it wasn't in that time when he found out, he started thinking what GOD said. You can go seven years, twenty years, but it is something about when GOD says something to you and do not have any one else to depend on, because all the brothers in the house was with the father. They had already talked about it. Rachel could not say anything, because she knew what was going on, so GOD had told him as he was fleeing, I will be with you, I will be your Protector, I will bring you and take you, now he said if you will bring me and protect me and you get me back, you will be my GOD he vowed, you will be my GOD if you take me, and you bring me back like you said and you will be my GOD, I will give you a tenth. But before he could get back, he was already depending on the LORD. Because he thought about what the LORD had told him. Because when his father-in-law tricked him, and every time he changed his wages, he thought about the LORD. When you do not have anything in life, you have the Word of GOD. That is why I tell you every night and every day to read HIS Word. Because when all else fails and fall apart, you see he thought he had everything together, he is going down there to get him a wife. When he saw Rachel, he said this is the woman, but it all fell apart so where are you going to go then? He could not go back home, because he had to go back home with a wife. And, his brother was waiting on him, so who could he turn to? He could not turn to his father-in-law, he did not have Rachel, all he had was Leah (he turned his head every time he saw her). That was the one GOD he loved, and every time I feel that his father-in-law changed his wages, it hit him hard. He was depressed, stay in the cold, in the hot heat raising the cattle. Every time one was lost, he replaced it. He learned how to love, GOD taught him how to really love (see we do not really know how to love). Every time he changed his wages, he had to depend on GOD on GOD's Word. And every time there was a lost, he fell in love so much, I can image with the sheep and the lambs, that he was protecting, you have to have love. So GOD took him out in the wilderness, and taught him how to love. Sometime you have to be lonely, sometime the boyfriend and girlfriend you once had, you have to cut them loose so GOD can show you the real love. Jacob is saying here for your cattle and thou has changed my wages ten times except GOD of my father (he is not back there in Bethel anymore, he is still traveling to Bethel and he is telling his testimony to his father-in-law). Except the GOD of my father (listen he is claiming now,) the GOD of my father, the GOD of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. But GOD, GOD hath seen mine affliction. Do not worry, GOD see your affliction. Weeping may endure for a night, but GOD is coming, but joy cometh in the morning. You have to stay there, you have to continue to depend on GOD's Word, because HIS Word is true. Twenty years later GOD's Word is still true. Sometimes people will promise you, I will be with you; but, when hard times come and trouble comes they back-out on you and they go get somebody else. But you just stay there and depend on GOD's Word. GOD's Word is bringing him through, because he believed GOD's Word. "GOD hath seen my affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.” GOD will take care of them that talked about you. Once I was in that Mark Antony's state, (yes I was) but GOD he taught me many lessons to leave that state alone and come over to the Jacob's realm. And I graduated because I have gone through hard times. And the things I used to do, I do not do them anymore. Now, I have a new name, yes I have a new name. GOD changed Jacob's name to Israel, it is a blessing; a good name is rather to be chosen then great riches. GOD will change your name and give you a name where people will recognize it. Be in good with GOD, sometimes just go through, HE will change you. Sometimes it is lonely, GOD will keep you. HE wants to give you the love of your life. But you cannot do it by yourself, you cannot do it doing everything under the sun. You have to come in and serve HIM. You have to walk by faith, you have to love your friends, you have to pray for your enemies and love them.

Scripture: St John 1:39-41
Subject: “Come And See”

As JESUS completed HIS at the end of HIS ministry on earth, I am preaching from St John chapter 1, verse 39. JESUS looked over Jerusalem and HE cried, HE expressed the heart of GOD, HE was so hurt, you do not know you can hurt GOD’s Heart and as HE looked over HE said, Oh I would have brought you in as a hen does the chicks, but you would not. “He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the CHRIST.” Isn’t that wonderful, “Come And See” Is our subject for this morning. (St. John 1:39-41)
There is a common thing among men and that is, "Come and See". You have nosey people anyway, I say something to somebody back there and somebody is stretching their necks, if I am looking a certain way, somebody is looking to see where I am looking at. They are nosey, so “Come And See”
It has been noted that 30% of an audience a class is visual and “seeing is believing”, so they say. Of course, you equate those who must see to believe with being in a state of doubt in their heart and in their minds. There was a disciple like Thomas, And, like JESUS' doubting disciple Thomas, who made the statement, that, unless he saw and put his finger/hand into JESUS' hand and put his hand into JESUS' side, Thomas would not believe. You still have hard believers in the church. The Holy Bible tells us that out of the mouth of two or three witnesses let every word be established. But for Thomas, even though there were two or three witnesses that JESUS was alive, HE would not believe. So, when JESUS appeared before them all and challenged Thomas to put his hand into HIS hands where HE had been nailed and put his hand into HIS side where the spear pierced HIM, then, JESUS told Thomas, because you have seen you believe, but, blessed are those who have not seen but yet believe, that is us, Church, that is us today. We have not seen JESUS in the flesh but we believe that HE is alive. So many, many, many prayers have been answered in the name of JESUS until we know by faith that HE is alive. For we have seen the works of the HOLY SPIRIT in the name of JESUS in action in our lives in the past to cause us to believe. HE has been activated in our lives by our belief. JESUS could have told Andrew where he lived. But, JESUS said unto them, come and see. Every day that the LORD allows us to awaken out of our sleep and see a new day, HE'S telling us to come and see the great work that HE will do for us if we believe and obey HIS Holy Will and HIS Holy Word; for every day will be a new glorious experience if (that’s a condition) you walk with the LORD and talk with the LORD in psalms and hymns and in your heart. HE will show you glorious things even in your workload, or in school, and on the playground or where ever, HE will show you different miraculous things. I have prayed to HIM on the football field while I was playing football and HE came. HE will show you glorious things everyday, and you can be a witness that others will come and see what you are talking about in church, at your home, and others around you. Your life should be so peculiar in CHRIST, until you will make people thirsty to follow you to see what you are all about. Your ways in your talk and in your walk with the LORD should make you an example of people to follow as Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter who followed JESUS to his house because of curiosity. These two disciples became very interested to know where JESUS lived; because, you see, JESUS' forerunner, John the Baptist, the next day after baptizing JESUS, but the previous day saw JESUS walking said, "Behold, the LAMB of GOD, WHO taketh away the sin of the world!” The Bible says, that two of John’s disciples heard him speak, John validated JESUS the authoritarian, the Real Deal, the Heavenly Teacher, they left John the Baptist and began following JESUS. Apparently, these disciples realized that John the Baptist would not validate someone who was not authentic. When you are honest within your heart for the Real Deal, when your heart, soul, and mind becomes thirsty for salvation, for the truth, the LORD GOD will always have a John the Baptist crying, Look! That means Behold the LAMB of GOD WHO taketh away the sin of the world! The disciples of John did not hesitate to leave John and follow JESUS. And, what is so beautiful about John the Baptist was that, he never tried to stop his former disciples from following JESUS. No, no! You never heard John the Baptist telling his Disciples to not go with JESUS but, stay with me or stay away from JESUS. But, on the contrary! For we hear this great Prophet of the LORD GOD the forerunner who cried out about JESUS' coming into the world and baptizing in the third chapter of St John 3 and the 30th verse, John said "He must increase, but I must decrease." No, no, John the Baptist never spoke against JESUS in saying, stay away from HIM or don’t follow him! Do not leave me! John the Baptist, who preached in the Spirit of the great Prophet Elijah was silent on the two of his disciples now following JESUS. John the Baptist knew that JESUS was from above. He knew that HE was the only begotten SON of GOD. "Behold the Lamb of GOD WHO taketh away the sin of the world". John knew that they were following the right man. JESUS was and is the Way, JESUS was and is the Truth, JESUS was and is the Life. I'm closing, but let me say, when JESUS saw the disciples of John following him HE turned and ask them what do you want? And out of curiosity, more being inquisitive, they asked JESUS, Rabbi, meaning master, meaning teacher, where do you live? Now that is very bold of two men asking the SAVIOR, the MASTER where do you live? Sometimes people ask strange questions just to be with you. But, JESUS never turned them away or spoke harshly to them about where HE lived. HE said, come and see. I am always inviting somebody to come and see. I do not mind being with you because the love of GOD is in my heart. And JESUS is still telling men and women all over this world to come and see. Come and see where I live, for where I live there is joy. Come and see where I live, for where I live there is peace. Come and see, as HE tells all men, women, boys, and girls to come and see where I live. There is eternal peace, eternal joy, eternal love, eternal ecstasy. My question this morning is that, are you following JESUS? Because all those who have accepted CHRIST and have been baptized are obeying HIS Word, you are following JESUS. And where HE is leading you is to an eternal joyful, loving, heavenly, eternal mansion that HE has prepared for you in heaven. Some they follow JESUS in a funny way yes they do, you have to have high standards, because JESUS has high standards, and yet HE is low and humble and meek in heart. HE is a loving Savior HE has high standards because HE has a mansion for you. Some not even myself have ever lived in a mansion, I have lived in a home, it is a beautiful home. Those homes in “Black Hawk” they have mansions out there, but the mansion that GOD has for those who believe, that mansion that is in “Black Hawk” cannot touch those mansions, they are eternal. Because, the devil has his representatives at the night clubs telling you to come and see; he has his representative at the Taj Mahal of the drug houses where you can go and get a hit, he's telling you to come and see. There is death at the whorehouses where all of those who are horny, who you are sexually immoral to the point where you just have to have flesh. You better be careful, because the devil is calling you to the whorehouse, to the brothel house to come and see. For when you get there, there is death! There are sexual diseases that are waiting for you. He's telling you to come and see big money at this casino. He saying on television and through the media to come and see. He's calling for boys and girls to stand on corners and sell drugs to get quick money. He’s calling for you, to come and see He's saying come and see. But oh, the question is, will it last? I'm here to tell you there's an end to all things that are here in this world. But with JESUS you have everlasting life, come and see. With JESUS, you have a way out of no way, come and see. With JESUS, you have love that you have never had before; and, HE said HE will never leave you nor forsake you, well come and see. HE is a heart fixer, come and see. HE is a mind regulator, come and see. HE is love, yes HE is. Come and see! Yes, we get ready, we rush, we come to church, we sit, and we stand and hear the Word taught. Our presence is here, but sometimes our heart is somewhere else. We get up, we rush, to come to church, we hear the teaching of the Word of the LORD, we sit, or we stand, and we hear the preaching of the Word of the LORD, we might say “Amen” every now and then, but our heart is somewhere else. We are not fooling GOD. We are here in body, but GOD’s priority is your heart. HE wants your heart, not our presence only, not only your mind, but HE wants your heart. Oh, we cannot fool GOD. Some sit in the church and even text Johnny, or Mary, or whoever when our minds and our hearts should be on JESUS. Sometimes we set up to meet Johnny or Mary, or whoever at that secret place to have a one night fling, or one hour fling to satisfy our fleshly desires, but it is coming up again. Even though we come to church and see and hear the miraculous miracles of what the LORD is doing, but the LORD is saying give me your heart. For there are no disappointments when you bring your heart and give your heart to the LORD JESUS, unlike it will be with Johnny, or Mary, or whoever. You are going to have disappointments, because the devil is setting up a sting for you. The police sets up stings, so the devil has a big sting. He will give you disappointments, he will give you heartaches, and he will give you headaches. You cannot wait to get out of church to call Johnny, or Mary, or whoever; or text or call to set up. Oh, but the LORD says, come and see what I have for you. The rich young ruler came, saw JESUS, heard what he had to say about eternal treasures in heaven, but he refused to give JESUS his heart. He walked away sad and eternally lost for temporary treasures, for a temporary one night fling, a one night fling with fading arguementive relationship, for a one night drinking and smoking binge, he gave it up for eternal life. You can do that all your life, it is still just a temporary one night fling. But in the presence of JESUS, it is eternal joy with no repercussions, but love and peace, and blessings! And blessings! And blessings! And blessings! I am closing now by saying, I heard a Governor speak about his friend who had a family, had children, had a beautiful home, had money, but yet he committed suicide. Remember about seven or eight years ago the broadcaster he had money, he was a millionaire, he had a home, he had children, but he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and committed suicide. When you do not have JESUS, you can have all the Johnny’s you want, you can have all the Mary’s you want, you can have all the others you want. But if you do not have JESUS as your priority you are still sad. You are still hurting, you are still disappointed, and you are still depressed. The LORD is talking to somebody. I heard What a travesty to be blessed by the LORD, to have a place to stay, to have money, to have all what you have that our heart could desire, and yet you allow your heart to be pulled away into depression, into fornication, into adultery, into stealing, into embezzlement, into smoking dope, into drinking. I know this sounds morbid, but one thing about it, if you are really honest in your heart, the LORD will help you in your weakness, the LORD will uphold you in your weakness, so that when Johnny, or Mary, or whoever call you to come, you will be able to say in your heart, and say out loud no, I am not going that way anymore. The dog bit you the first time, but do not go back the same way. I am giving my heart to JESUS. Do not part-time, GOD is not a part-time lover and HE does not want you to be a part-time lover. HE wants you to be a whole-time lover. HE has been blessing you all your life, HE’s been holding you all your life, and now what is wrong with you. GOD is loving you. For HE told me, if I delight in the LORD, HE would give me the desires of my heart, what more can you ask for. Come and see JESUS fulfill HIS Word in your life, when HE says “seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and HIS righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” JESUS says “come and see”. “Some folks would rather chose houses and land, some folks chose silver and gold, some things they’d rather and forget about their souls, but I have decided to make JESUS my choice. These clothes may be ragged that I am wearing, heavy the burden I am carrying, but I have decided to make JESUS my choice. You know, the road is rough, and the going gets tough, and the hills are hard to climb, I started out a long time ago, there is no doubt in my mind, I, I am trying to tell you, I, I am trying to tell you, I have decided to make JESUS my choice.” Come and see! Come and see! Come and see! Come and see! JESUS is calling today. I have decided to make JESUS my choice, JESUS is a heart fixer, JESUS is a mind regulator. The LORD is here. The LORD GOD Almighty HE loves you, hold on. GOD loves you, hold on. HE hears your prayers hold on; GOD has brought you from a mighty long way, hold on, HE is here right now, HE is a heart fixer, HE is a mind regulator. Do you love HIM? HE loved you first. “For GOD so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Do you love HIM? HE brought you from a mighty long way. Stay out of those bins, stay out of those bad places, you do not have to consent to the devil, just hold on GOD will give you strength, HE is a heart fixer, HE is a mind regulator. You did not come here all along, GOD is with you hold on, GOD loves you, hold on, Come and see GOD is waiting for you, Turn, turn from your wicked ways, and hold on, hold on, GOD is with you HE will give you strength, HE loves you hold on.
